Volunteers

The Light Parade Weekend is organised and run by volunteers, so we have always been grateful for the offers of assistance from Wingers and others who have helped us to spread the considerable workload. The Event is bigger, better and lasts longer this year, so extra help would be particularly welcome.

The organisers and helpers get no payment or benefit in kind and they pay for their own accommodation too, so this is an opportunity to be a genuine volunteer, same as everyone else! If we can get suitable sponsorship, you will however receive a thank-you gift for being a volunteer helper.

If you would like to express your interest in any of these roles, please fil in the form opposite.

You will be working in a Registration Booth at St Chads Headland on Saturday to accept Registrations for the Light Parade from Wingers and their personal guests who are not staying at Pontin's. You will issue the Riding Guidelines and Light Parade Permit Badges to those who are eligible. You will work a two or three hour shift and you can mix this work with being a Display Area Marshal too if you wish.

You will be helping to control traffic flow and to direct bike parking at St Chads Headland on Saturday and/or Sunday — you will do a two or three hour shift, get to wear a yellow jacket and to welcome people. You may get to meet Honda's Racing Stars who will be making personal appearances at the HondaUK Stand — and maybe Prince William and Richard Hammond will turn up on Sunday too, when we are open to all bikers!

You will be working indoors to welcome new arrivals at Pontin's, hand out welcome packs, accept Registrations for the Light Parade and issue the Riding Guidelines and Light Parade Permit Badges and maybe also sell regalia and other Event merchandise. You will get to meet old Winger friends and make new ones. You will do two or three hour shift or shifts. However Prince William is not expected to be staying at Pontin's.

You will play a vital role in getting the Light Parade off to a safe start by checking that bikes have Parade Permits and directing them into position within the enclosed Mustering Area on the Princess Promenade near the Cenotaph. You may ride in the Parade yourself or be a pillion passenger but transport will be provided to and from Pontin's for those who just want to help and then watch the Parade. You will have an early meal in order to get to the Mustering Area for about 5.30pm on Saturday and you will be Marshalling until the Parade moves off at about 7.30pm or shortly after.

You will be working in a Registration Booth (probably a caravan) near the entrance to the Mustering Area near the Cenotaph to accept Registrations for the Light Parade from Wingers and their personal guests who have not registered at Pontin's or St Chads. You will issue the Riding Guidelines and Light Parade Permit Badges to those who are eligible. You may ride in the Parade yourself or be a pillion passenger but transport will be provided to and from Pontin's for those who just want to help and then watch the Parade. You will have an early meal in order to get to the Mustering Area for about 5.30pm on Saturday and you will be there until the Mustering Area closes at about 7.30pm.

We were short of Parade Marshals last year so we have invited a local group of Advanced Motorcyclists to help and there will hopefully be enough of them to cover most if not all of what we need. Wingers are however welcome to volunteer to be Parade Marshals too and we welcome volunteers. You will either ride ahead of or with the Parade or be pre-positioned at a road junction to block encroaching traffic. There is also a specialist role for two well lit bikes which will involve more challenging riding as "sweepers", to help Parade Marshals who have blocked junctions to tag on to the back of the Parade as it passes them. We would particularly welcome a couple of Trike riders who are willing to ride at the back of the Parade, to provide the Parade with an imposing and conspicuous rear end — in the nicest possible way.

We need two Wingers to ride at the back of the Parade carrying battery packs to assist any Winger whose bike has flattened its battery to re-start. Battery Packs will be provided, we just need two volunteers.
